Welcome To the City Of Hume History Of Hume: Tradition says the community was named for the Hume distillery after three barrels of whiskey arrived here by mistake. When Hume first started, The Kansas City, Fort.Scott and Memphis built a Depot, With Harry Bacon the first depot Agent. The first Bank to do Business in Hume was organized by Dr.Standish and C.E.Horton 1884. The first hotel was operated by Oren Mitchel and called the Mitchel House. The first mill in Hume was operated by Messinger, Fisher and Kel, The Blakers Milling Company, first grain dealers, began doing business in Hume in 1881. The Farmers Elevator was built in 1920 for the convenience of farmers. The first photographer was Bowman who located in Hume in 1885. The first picture show in Hume was in 1907, operated by Al Ackerman. |
